Pushing the Boundaries of Bespoke Design- a Custom Boudoir Rug
At no point during our career did we think that we would be
putting someone’s boudoir shoot photos on a rug… But that’s exactly what
happened a few years back. A high-profile client, wanting to create a
one-of-a-kind piece of artwork as a surprise gift for his partner, commissioned
a rug from us as the centerpiece for a lavish room.
The client wanted the rug to showcase the “signature
Christopher Fareed Pop Art style”, featuring bold shapes and colors, high
contrast, and playful design. The client shared photos from his partner’s
boudoir shoot, giving us the creative freedom to use them however we thought
best to achieve the vision.
The entire project took nearly 8 months to complete, involving
over 20 rounds of different artwork options and revisions to fine-tune the
design. Our team created a composition using pieces from different photos,
superimposed them together, and incorporated geometric shapes and a stippling
pattern to highlight the Pop Art feel. Once the overall pattern was approved,
our team worked with the client to perfect the colors for capturing that bold
statement.
The final rug took months to weave, being 14 feet wide and
over 24 feet long and manufactured in a fine hand-knotted construction. It
showcased New Zealand wool with pure silk accents for a lustrous sheen that
made the design come to life.
In the end, we created a show-stopping piece of artwork for
the client’s floor that both the client and his partner were elated with. It took
a lot of hard work from our talented team, but seeing such a beautiful end
result makes it worth it for us. It just goes to show that no matter how difficult
the process and no matter how “crazy” the request, our team will work
tirelessly to make it happen.
